If you’ve ever wondered what life is like under the sea, then these are the places to explore. MarketMAPS shares with you some of the world’s best diving sites.
Barracuda Point, Sipadan Island
Sipadan is the only oceanic island in Malaysia. It rises about 2,000ft from the seabed and was formed by living corals growing on top of an extinct volcano cone. The island is in the center of one of the most densely populated marine habitats in the world. Barracuda Point is the most famous location on the island. As the name implies, you can find an abundant amount of barracuda there, but there are also turtles, horse-eyed jacks, and sharks. Not to mention a turtle graveyard and a plethora of coral.
Great Blue Hole, Belize
When Jacques Cousteau first explored this submarine sinkhole off the coast of Belize, he immediately named it one of the best diving sites in the world. The hole is over 900 feet across and more than 400 feet deep. The crystal clear waters and exotic marine life, including all types of sharks, makes the Great Blue Hole a must-see for any diving enthusiast
The Red Sea, Egypt
Offering beautiful turquoise water, the Red Sea is ideal for any diving enthusiast seeking adventure. Interest in the area grew after the expeditions of Hans Haas in the 1950’s, as well as those of Jacques Cousteau. Divers can swim with diverse species of shark, coral, and even explore shipwrecks.
Rangiroa is a large coral island (one of the largest in Polynesia and the world). Rangiroa offers some of the best diving sites, including the famous Blue Lagoon. Bottlenose dolphins are a frequent sight around Rangiroa and the crystal clear waters allow you to also see manta rays, green sea turtles, and various species of shark around the island. The Tiputa pass and the Avatoru Pass are great places to begin your scuba diving adventures on Rangiroa.
