Real Madrid Resort Island

Posted on March 23, 2012

If you’ve ever dreamed of seeing Iker Casillas sunbathe or Xabi Alonso and Pepe making a sandcastle, then perhaps it’s time to save up for a stay at the Real Madrid Resort Island.

That’s right, the team plans to open a holiday resort on an artificial island in the United Arab Emirates. A presentation at the Bernabeu on Thursday revealed  plans for sports facilities, a marina, luxury hotels and villas, an amusement park, a club museum, and of course a 10,000 seat stadium with one side conveniently open to the sea. Who said that Europe was having a recession?

This is a huge venture- one of about 4.6 million square feet to be exact. Partnered with the government of the Emirate of Ras Al Khaimah, Real Madrid’s futbol fantasy island is expected attract one million visitors within its first year of operation.

The massive plan is only estimated to take three years to create. We can only hope that in that time span, Barcelona opens its own island, to add that spunky competitive flavor.

For plans that big and that extreme, they are definitely going to need accurate planning tools to get started.
