This month, Apple has submitted a revised plan for the Apple Campus 2 project to the city of Cupertino.
Apple plans to replace its existing offices and research building in Cupertino, California in order to create the new Apple Campus 2. Ironically enough, most of this 175 acre area is located on the former Hewlett Packard campus, bounded by the I-280 to the south,Wolfe Road to the west, Homestead Road to the north, and North Tantau Avenue to the east.
After the demolition of approximately 2.65 million square feet of existing offices,Apple will move forward with the construction of an office, research and development building that should take up about 2.8 million square feet, a 1,000 seat corporate auditorium, a corporate fitness center, a central plant, 300,000 square feet of research facilities, and associated parking.
While the city of Cupertino will have to re-review the environmental impact of the revised project, as Mayor Gilbert Wong had originally clarified, “There is no chance that we’re saying no.”
Apple plans to break ground soon, and have the new headquarters complete by 2015. The massive building will house over 12,000 employees. Such a massive project is sure to take endless planning and design reference.
